Boston Marathon...and Other Stuff

Today was race day - the 113th annual running of the Boston Marathon. It's a great day in our state. There were over 26k runners this year; simply amazing!

Not only was it race day, it is also a state holiday and the start of school vacation. That means a super speedy commute to work... UNTIL I got to the off ramp. Then I found all the people that were missing from the roads before.

On the plus side - it's great to see all these people going to support the runners and to see the Red Sox game (BTW... a 12 to 1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. GO SOX!!!!). My office is also in a great location to see said marathon.

The down side - that my office is in a prime location meant lots of loiterers, a hard time getting into our parking garage, and too much traffic (both foot and vehicular) to make my daily Starbucks run.

All in all, a great day to be around Boston!

In other news...
  • YAY to Ellie!! Her hubby is one of JC's close friends and has made it home for leave from Afghanistan. I adore both of them, and am simply thrilled that he's home (even if I don't get to see him).
  • Tonight I'm taking in DWTS. Maybe I'll even do a post on it later tonight or tomorrow. I'd love to hear what you think of this season.
  • If anybody has tips on how to deal with a hardcore sinus headache, PLEASE tell me. After a week of constant pain, I broke down and went to a Minute Clinic (my doc is on vacation). Turns out I have a sinus infection and ear infection. Good news is that it's viral; bad news is that it means no meds & it can possibly last another 7-10 days.

  1. Get some mucinex fast! And find some good decongestant nose spray. The combo of the two will keep the congestion at bay and prevent it from getting worse! Plus, the pressure will diminish. Feel better!!!

  2. When you're taking a hot shower, bend your head down and let the water hit the base of your skull for a few minutes. That sometimes help. Or, boil some water over the stove and then drape a towel around your head and the boiling water, so that the steam can go up and do its work.

  3. How can you have a sinus infection that can't be treated with antibiotics? I've never heard of such a thing. When I have a sinus or ear infection I'm always given antibiotics! Geez girl, I hope your doctor comes back soon! It's a miserable thing.

Nikki Crumpet was probably one of those bystanders at the marathon! Hope she had fun!

    Justine :o )

  4. Aleve cold and sinus. I call it my happy medicine!

Also, Shower Soothers. You put them in the shower and they release mentholy type stuff. Really helps!

And finally, a massage. :) Can't go wrong with that!

    Hope you feel better soon!

  5. How fun! A coworker of mine was up there to support his wife running in the marathon. I love the spirit of Boston (and the Red Sox!)
