Tuesdays At The Table - Cranberry Sauce
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! I have a little secret for you....I like cranberry sauce, but only the "fresh" stuff. I find the cranberry jello in a can revolting. Everyone in my family loves it! Most of my friends love it! Me? Not so much.
Here's a cranberry sauce that's easy and so much tastier than the canned stuff.
Cranberry Sauce
1 pound fresh cranberries, washed and dried
2 cups granulated sugar
1/3 cup water
1 cinnamon stick (or a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon)
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 orange, zested and juiced
In a medium pot, combine the cranberries, sugar and water. Stir to blend. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Reduce to a simmer and add the cinnamon stick (or ground cinnamon), allspice and nutmeg. Stir to blend and simmer for an additional 5 to 7 minutes. Some of the cranberries will burst and some will remain whole. Add the orange juice and zest, stir and allow to cool before serving.
What's cooking in your kitchen for the holidays?

What a great, simple recipe for cranberry sauce! Thank you...and Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteFor the first time, I'm making my own cranberry sauce. I have a recipe that calls for orange juice and cooking the cranberries in the juice. Your recipe sounds quite simple as well. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHomemade cranberry sauce is awesome!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the homemade cranberry sauce! SOOO much better than the canned!
ReplyDeleteHappy thanksgiving! I love cranberry sauce...A LOT :) Thanks for hosting. My recipe could easily be used with leftover turkey too!

ReplyDeleteDelicious! My husband could make a whole meal of cranberry sauce. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you too Cole! Your cranberry sauce sounds lovely - I like the spices in it. Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the linkup. I'm linking back to you on my site.
ReplyDeleteThanks again. God bless.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you why I don't make my own sauce: Because my husband won't eat any cranberry sauce without the ridges from the can imprinted on it! The rest of my immediate family is the same, so I know that while I would enjoy the heck out of a homemade sauce, no one else would eat it.
But now that I know it's so easy, maybe I'll make some just for me! :-)
I always say I will make cranberry sauce from scratch, but I never do. This year is no different! I already finished shopping and don't feel like going back!
ReplyDeleteI like the spices in your cranberry sauce. One of my contributions to my daughter's table, will be cranberry sauce.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone want that canned stuff. There are members of my family that I have to have it for also. Fresh is so much better. Spread a little on you turkey sandwich. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! This week there are sooooo many delicious pumpkin and turkey recipes on the blogosphere, I decided to submit a non-turkey recipe....Perfect for the lazy Sunday dinner when all that's left in your fridge is a carcas and some dried out stuffing ;)
ReplyDeleteI love all cranberry sauces that are homemade! Your newest follower! Love your Tuesdays at the Table! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI agree that homemade cranberry sauce is the only way to go. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHi Cole! Happy thanksgiving to you and your lovely family. I too love fresh made cranberry and cant take the can version so we are on the same page. Lucky for me, my mom makes an awesome recipe and brings it to my house. My link up this week is for a coconut oil giveaway just in time for the holiday baking season! All the best, Alex
ReplyDeleteMmmm...love home made cranberry sauce! Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteEvery Thanksgiving, I say I'm not going to make cranberry sauce because I am the only one in the whole family that eats it. But every year I change my mind b/c I don't want to be without it!!
ReplyDeleteWow that looks like a great recipe. I sure agree with you that I prefer not to eat the canned stuff! Fresh is so much tastier and healthier!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, as usual. I think I will volunteer the cranberry sauce this year.
