I survived surgery. We all knew I would!! If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that it was a bit of an ordeal though.
I got to the hospital and had the following people descend on me all at once: the pre-op nurse, the surgical nurse, the surgeon, two of his residents, the anesthesiologist and one of his residents. I don't know what the deal was...but they had me into the surgical suite before they even put my IV in! I've seen how smoothly things are supposed to run while there for my mom's surgeries.
It seems that I threw up while unconscious in the surgical suite. Luckily, I didn't aspirate anything! However, I did throw up again in the recovery room. Go me!!
Despite antibiotics, and a host of other meds - the surgeon was unpleasantly surprised by how bad my gallbladder was when he got in there. I was blessed that they still did the procedure laparoscopically - but they had to open up one of the incisions a lot wider than normal to get the organ out. That means that I am at risk for a hernia. No shoveling or picking up anything over five pounds for a couple of months (and I have to be careful bending over), and my recovery is going to take longer than I had hoped.
I look forward to getting back to normal...but in the meantime, Percocet is my friend!
And...while I was having surgery....
My mom is in London and tripped over a cobblestone and fell. She ended up breaking her shoulder (she swears she feels fine now) and chipped a tooth. Then, my great uncle passed away. We all knew it was coming; I just wish that our family hadn't had such a colossally bad day!

oh wow, I'm sorry you've been through so much lately! I hope you recover soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the ordeal is over, and that you're joking around. Sorry about your Mom's fall and Great Uncle passing. They say things happen in threes! Let me know if I can bring you anything...
ReplyDeleteOh honey, I'm so sorry this has been such an ordeal. But I'm so glad that the surgery went well, despite the development with your gall bladder, and I am wishing you a super speedy recovery. Just take it easy because hernias can be nasty business. My stepdad has had multiple surgeries to repair hernias and they continue to keep developing.
ReplyDeleteHope you are on the mend soon! Sorry to hear abt your uncle and Mom. Take care of yourself!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, what an ordeal! Glad to hear you made it through surgery okay though. Take care of yourself!
ReplyDelete:( I'm sorry. Very very sorry. I wish I had something funny ... but I'm at a loss. I'm praying for you friend!

ReplyDeleteHi Cole :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of and praying for you, so had to stop by and see if you had updated us. Thanks for doing so!
For what it's worth - I much preferred when everybody showed up at once and things seemed to rush forward, over the times that this person showed up, and then I waited, and then that person showed up, and then I waited, and ........ get me in, get to work, get it over with!!! :-)
Not to sound 'smarter than your Dr.' or anything, but I knew that if you were in that much pain, etc., that meant your gull bladder was in really bad shape. My experience, my sisters, others ....
You CAN not only take it easy for a few weeks, but survive it in good spirits. Do you like romantic chick flicks, or comedy's, or ?. Put our a request to your friends to borrow their movies of your preferred type. And maybe some books. Do you have a bunch of magazines sitting around? Go back through them, cut out the things you like (I did a posting once about a file for such things. It's listed in one of the "directories of Hopefully Useful Tips"), and then pass the magazines on to somebody else. Do you have a pile of 'mending' that should be done? Tackle it!! Do some mending, reward yourself with a movie. ;-) If you need more ideas, just ask. I'm full of them o;-p
About the getting sick part. Should you ever need surgery again for something (including dental type of surgery) clue them in to that and they can give you something in your IV that helps eliminate said problem! Yup, been there, done that. Worth the ask!!!!
I hope that your mom really is okay.
My sympathy about your uncle. Even knowing it's coming doesn't remove the sorrow.
Last Tues. you posted a recipe for Pork stew. Yesterday I posted one I made up using left over Pork Loin. Perhaps my inspiration had come from you? Hadn't really thought about it till now. If so, THANKS!! :-)
Enjoy and relax during this down time. Once it's done, it will be spring time and you'll be all fired up to tackle life!
Goodness you are having a time! Best wishes to you and your Mom for a speedy recovery. And I am so sorry to hear about your great uncle.
